Item Assessing E-Learning Tools in an Academic Environment: A Study of Availability and Use among Undergraduate Students in a Nigerian University(International Journal of Progressive Education, 2015-06) Ifijeh, Goodluck; Osinulu, Ifeakachuku; Esse, Ugwunwa C.; Adewole-Odeshi, Egbe; Fagbohun, MichaelThis study investigated the availability and use of e-learning tools as emerging paradigms in Covenant University, Nigeria. The study population comprise of 7000 undergraduate students, out of which 1000 was used as sample. Questionnaire was used as data collecting tool for the study. A total of five hundred and eleven questionnaires were filled and returned. The study revealed that an appreciable number of e-learning tools were available and in use in the University. Notable among them is an electronic learning management system - Moodle. Most of the respondents (61.8%) indicated that they used the e-learning tools mostly for downloading lecture notes. The study further revealed that there was no significant relationship between students' level of study (class) and their use of elearning tools. Also, no significant relationship between use of e-learning tools and academic performance was established. Majority of the respondents (54%) identified inadequate internet access as the biggest challenge to students' use of e-learning platforms. The study was concluded with recommendations that could enhance the use of e-learning platforms in Universities in Nigeria. The main essence of makerspace is to stir creativity, innovations and motivate learners towards designing and inventing. This paper is an exposition on the place of makerspace as a new approach to pedagogical activities. The 21st century is immersed in information and communication technology revolution which has necessitated a new way of learning. New generation of learners are referred to as digital natives who are naturally gravitated towards new innovations. This paper relies on recent scholarly publications to point out intricacies of makerspace, the need for educators to embrace it, the new role for educators and other stakeholders in education and the need to manage this change in the educational system. The paper also points out the challenges that this new wave encounters in areas where adoption has taken place and the benefits of adopting makerspace. Conclusion is however made that change is constant and the idea of makerspace may be the new shift that will totally revolutionize the academic world. It is suggested that Faculty and Management need to encourage studies to evaluate accruable benefits of makerspace. Keywords: Makerspace, education, technology. The study population consisted of seventy-eight librarians in four universities in the state. Questionnaires (which was the instrument for data collection) were administered to the entire population, out of which 55 (representing 70.5 % response rate) were filled, returned and analysed for the study. The study revealed that library professionals do make use of SNS. The most frequently visited SNS was Linkedln (58.2 %). The respondents also indicated that they visited SNS for the purpose of connecting and collaborating with friends and colleagues, carrying out current awareness and reference services to library users, etc. Majority of the respondents (94.5 %) in the study further revealed that the greatest challenge to the use of social network sites was lack of social media skills. The first hypothesis tested in the study indicated that there was moderate positive significant relationship between device used for internet access and use of social network sites (r=.408**, N= 55, p<.002.). The second hypothesis revealed that there was no significant relationship between gender and use of SNS (r = 0 .157, N=55, p >.05). The study was concluded with recommendations that library professionals should undergo training in social media skills.Item STRATEGIES FOR THE PRESERVATION OF ELECTRONIC RECORDS IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN NIGERIA(International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation, 2018-10) Ilo, Promise I.; Fagbohun, Michael; Idiegbeyan-Ose, Jerome; Esse, Ugwunwa C.; NWOKEOMA, Nwanne M.; Osinulu, Ifeakachuku; Olawoyin, Olajumoke R.; Adebayo, OyeronkePage 1. 5th of October, 2018 ICERI2018 Local Organising Committee ABSTRACT ACCEPTANCE LETTER This is a confirmation that the abstract entitled: “STRATEGIES FOR THE PRESERVATION OF ELECTRONIC RECORDS IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN NIGERIA” Author(s): Promise Ilo, Michael Fagbohun, Jerome Idiegbeyan-Ose, Ugwunwa Esse, Nwanne Nwokeoma, Ifeakachuku Osinulu, Olajumoke Olawoyin, Oyeronke Adebayo has been accepted as ORAL presentation at ICERI2018. This paper examines the use of social media tools for knowledge sharing by university library staff in Nigeria. A descriptive research design was adopted for this study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select one hundred and sixty five (165) responded from thirty nine (36) university libraries. A structured questionnaire was the major instrument of data collection and was administered at Nigeria Library Association Annual conference. The data was reported in descriptive statistics and Statistical Software Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used for data analysis. The study revealed that university library staff in Nigeria (𝑥= 3.28±SD= 1.223) always use Instant Messaging App and Social networking sites such as Whatsapp, WeChat, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, Fortuito, My space, Academia and Research Gate for knowledge sharing. To a great extent majority of library staff (𝑥= 3.07±SD= 0.989) used social media tools to share personal journals and conference proceedings with users and professional colleagues. Also the study revealed that the factors inhibiting library staff use of social media tools (𝑥= 3.63±SD= 0.484) in Nigeria is poor internet connectivity.
