Item Awareness and Use of Social Bookmarking Services by Final Year Students in a Nigerian Private University(Information Impact, 2014-12) Adegbilero-Iwari, Idowu; Fasae, Joseph K.; Adegbilero-Iwari, Oluwaseun E.Social computing is one of the renascent features of the web that has made it highly interactive. One of such social tools in the web is the social bookmarking services. It has been reported that social bookmarking services may be the least known social media network by students. Given that social media has been predicted to revolutionize learning it is therefore imperative to study the awareness and use of social media tools like social bookmarking services by undergraduate students. The survey research design was employed and questionnaire used to collect data. Using the SPSS statistical tool, the data were analysed and the result presented in simple percentages. It was found that the students are largely (60.9%) not aware of social bookmarking services. Their familiarity with and usage of the services were very low as very little proportions of the respondents can either “use”, “are using” or “have used” some of the social bookmarking services. With 28%, meeting people with similar research interest is the most beneficial feature of social bookmarking services to the students. But overall, the students (52.2%) agree that social bookmarking services are useful for their academic work.Item Blogging Medical Information Sources to Users: the Case of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti Medical Library(IFLA, 2014) Adegbilero-Iwari, Idowu; Subair, Roselyn E.; Agbetuyi, PriscillaThe ubiquitous Internet continues to increase sources of information to information seekers in this present age as information are lodged in different web platforms ranging from digital libraries, databases, repositories, and lately social media platforms. More often than not, information seekers are limited in their quest to popular search engines as Google, inadvertently short-changing themselves of the other many sources that search results may not reveal. So, as we were faced with the need to bring our databases and other useful electronic resources together, using a Web 2.0 tool, we deployed the weblog so as to better serve our users and help them gain access to useful information they might have been missing. In this paper, we describedhow we used weblog to meet the need and create access to medical information sources and resources for easy retrieval.Item Librarianship and Sustainable Development in Hospitality and Tourism: Special Focus on Bibliotourism(Nigerian Library Association Ondo State Chapter, 2019-12) Adegbilero-Iwari, Idowu; Owoeye, Olubunmi I.; Odefadehan, Oluwaseun O.; Christopher, Abraham I.The contextual environment of library in the 21st century has given way to diversity of library services. The library has moved from the era of being a place where people come to conduct research or reading to what is now known all over the globe as infonomics; moving from the era of thinking and talking of library information materials as asset but, giving it the economic value that it actually worth. In the same vein, library, no doubt has prominent role to play in sustainability of hospitality and tourism development which has great influence on the nation’s economic growth and sustainability. Hospitality and tourism can be promoted and sustained through bibliotourism. This paper therefore, expounds the concept of bibliotourism and its influence on sustainability of hospitality and tourism development. For libraries in Nigeria to successfully court tourism to harness bibliotourism, concerted effort must be made by the government and all stakeholders in information profession to make our libraries centers of excellence and attraction. The paper therefore recommends that the library must be architecturally imposing exuding beauty and awe as is usually found of libraries in other nations and offer dynamic services and resources that catch the fancy of all people.Item Library Services Platform Path to Cloud Computing Adoption in Nigerian Academic Libraries: A Review(Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal), 2017-10-19) Adegbilero-Iwari, Idowu; Hamzat, Saheed A.The library and Information science (LIS) profession have evolved over time taking advantage of prevailing technology. The arrival of computers and other communication technologies led to major changes in the ways library services are rendered and the profession practiced. Library Management Systems (LMS) is one of such earlier areas where ICT have been applied to the operations of the library during the library computerization era. The arrival of the renascent Cloud Computing is generating new areas of research in relation to librarians’ uptake of this new technology. Cloud computing is being leveraged by developers of library systems to facilitate the envisaged move away from ILS/LMS to a more robust system that can handle some of the shortcomings of the ILS/LMS. These new systems are called Library services platforms (LSP). While both established and new library systems vendors are turning out different products, libraries have begun to shift away to these new platforms. This paper reviews cloud computing in libraries and projects LSPs as the reliable path to its adoption in Nigerian academic libraries. Recommendations were made based on the outcomes of this study.Item Science communication and collaboration for Open Science: Tools and Platforms for Internationalising Nigerian Research(2020-01) Adegbilero-Iwari, IdowuThe presentation covers the following concepts – Science Communication (Science In-reach) – Open science – Internationalisation and other Issues with African research • Way Forward for Nigeria • Platforms and Tools for Collaboration and Visibility – Open Journal System – Open Science FrameworkItem Utilization and User Satisfaction of Public Library Services in South-West, Nigeria in the 21st Century: A Survey(SAP, 2014-12) Ikenwe, Iguehi J.; Adegbilero-Iwari, IdowuUser satisfaction of public library services has become an imperative concern in recent times. There is no doubt that satisfaction of library services influences the degree in which the services are used and it has been found to be an important factor that affects the use or non use of library services. This study investigated the utilization and user satisfaction of public library services in south west Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was employed for this research and a total of 400 (four hundred) library users chosen across four states in South-West, Nigeria were used for the study. Questionnaire was the major instrument used for data collection. Frequency counts and simple percentages were used to analyze the obtained data. The results showed that there is an improvement in the use of these libraries. Also, lack of adequate facilities, inadequate/outdated information resources, internet /ICT services in Nigeria public libraries were revealed by the users as major factors affecting user satisfaction of public library services in this 21st century of information and communication technology. Based on the findings, it was recommended that funding should be increased by the government so that adequate information resources and ICT facilities can be acquired in public libraries. And this will also boost the utilization of public libraries among the Nigerian population who desperately need a place where their information needs would be met.
