LIFE-CYCLE COST ANALYSIS (LCCA) COMPARISON OF PAVEMENTS (FLEXIBLE, RIGID AND RIGID-ADMIXED WITH COW BONE ASH)
(Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications, 2021-08) Ariyo, Adanikin; Falade, Funsho; Olutaiwo, Adewale; Ajibade, Temi; Adeoye, Itunuoluwa
Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) acts as a decision support tool in economic evaluation of cost (agency and user) during pavement type selection, maintenance and rehabilitation strategy. The Life cycle cost analysis was done using the Present worth of Cost method. Technical Recommendations for Highway (TRH) 12 (pavement rehabilitation investigation and design) analysis was used for calculating the agency cost which entailed the initial rehabilitation, maintenance, future and salvage cost. The LCCA analysis period for this study was taken as 40 years as the analysis period have to be sufficiently long to reflect long-term cost differences associated with reasonable design strategies. The result of the study shows that the present worth cost for the varying Pavement presents the options available for decision making. The result revealed that the initial cost of Rigid pavement is the highest followed by the initial cost of Rigid pavement with 15% CBA while flexible Pavement has the lowest initial cost. However, considering the result showing the present worth cost for the varying pavement types present worth cost of flexible pavement is the highest followed by Rigid pavement and Rigid pavement with 15% CBA has the lowest life cycle cost. The study recommended that Rigid pavement with 15% CBA should be considered because it gives the lowest life cycle cost and the initial cost is relatively low.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AS A VERITABLE TOOL FOR PEACE AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
(World Educators Forum, 2014-11) ASA, KOLAWOLE JAYEOLA; KUDEHINBU, OLUFUNKE O.
This study focused on youth empowerment as a veritable tool for the realization of peaceful co-existence and national development. In doing this it looked at the concept of youth and traced their idleness to inadequacies in the school curriculum which invariably results to their restfulness and involvement in social vices. The paper found out that the systematic development of entrepreneurial skills in youths will bring about peace and sustainable national development. It suggested a review of entrepreneurial education curriculum, proper mentoring and provision of infrastructure by government as a means of facilitating youth entrepreneurial skills.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS: A CATALYST FOR EMPLOYEES’ PERFORMANCE IN THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC SERVICE. AN EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM THE LAGOS STATE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE
(International Journal of Management, Social Sciences, Peace and Conflict Studies (IJMSSPCS), 2020-12) LASISI, OLUKAYODE IDRIS; ASA, KOLAWOLE JAYEOLA,
The Nigerian public service as a machinery of government is empowered to deliver public service to its citizenry. For the public service to achieve its activities geared towards the attainment of its pre-targeted goals, emphasis is therefore, being laid on the calibre of its work force. The process of having calibre workforce in the public service does happen through effective recruitment and selection process which determines the type of employees that exists in the public service thereby determining the job performance of the public service. This study examined the impact of the recruitment and selection process on performance in the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design. This study involved an in-depth inquiry involving a structured questionnaire to collect data from the respondents. The findings revealed that a good recruitment and selection process helps employees in identifying problems in the organization; makes employees arrive early to meetings; helps employees in taking appropriate actions on problems as necessary; promotes prompt arrival to work and takes appropriate actions on issues. This study concluded that all qualified candidates should therefore of necessity be treated with fairness and equity and as much as possible, the elements of nepotism, tribalism, favouritism, gender discrimination, ethnicity, godfatherism and corruption must be eroded thereby giving equal opportunities to all qualified applicants. This study recommended that public services should upgrade their recruitment and selection procedures to meet up with the rising demands of the competitive labour forces.

Discrete Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) and Quantity Reorder Point Inventory Control: Implication on Resource Optimization in Nigerian Manufacturing Companies
(International Journal of Innovative Science and Research Technology, 2019) Adesuyi, I.O; Nwekpa, K.C; Bassey, J.U
 Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the implication of discrete Economic order Quantity (EOQ) and Recorder point on the optimization of resources in Nigeria manufacturing companies.  Design/Methodology Approach A quantitative research design was employed of which secondary data obtained from the annual report and account of tern year period (2004-2013) from the studied firms were used. Data collected were estimated using Microsoft excel and exponential smoothing for each of the studied firms.  Findings The economic order Quantity (EOQ) that is the quantity that minimizes total cost of raw material for each of the studied firms were determine discretely and by exponential smoothing. The results obtained, compared, we found that the result obtained by discrete EOQ were higher than the corresponding results obtained by exponential smoothing. The implication is that the discrete EOQ method over estimates resource optimization.  Conclusion It is concluded that total cost of inventory is greatly reduced by the application of exponential smoothing method of EOQ and hence the essence of the method and the usefulness of this study.

Enhancing Economic Performance of Nigerian Manufacturing Firms Using Quantity - Reorder Point Inventory Control System
    (IOSR Journal of Business and Management (IOSR-JBM), 2017-06) Adesuyi, I. O; Nwekpa, K. C; Bassey, J.U
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to explore whether there is a relationship between quantity Reorder Point Inventory Control and Economic Performance of the manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Using flour mills as a focal point Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research design was employed, of which secondary data obtained from the annual report and account of ten-year period (2004-2013) from the studied firms was used. Data collected were estimated using regression models of which Ordinary Least Square (OLS) form the basis for estimation. Using OLS, the various cost functions were estimated. Findings: The relationship between profit and inventory; Total Cost and Inventory were also determined. Reorder point, that is the level to which stock of wheat material is allowed to fall before ordering for another raw material was equally determined for each of the studied firms. The study found out that there is a significant positive relationship between profit and demand for wheat inventory; Total cost and Inventory at the studied firms. There is a significant relationship between Reorder Point and Time at the studied Firms also; Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to flour manufacturing companies in Nigeria whose transactions and financial records are made available at Nigeria stock exchange. The assumptions that the estimated cost functions in the study are linear is also a limitation. Normally, carrying cost and ordering cost are quadratic while total cost is cubic which is beyond the scope of the study. Practical Implications: To achieve better economic performance in any organization, the firm has to meet the three fundamental attributes of customer service which are availability; operational performance and service reliability. Availability explains the capacity of a firm having inventory when desired by a customer. Operational performance is all about required time to deliver customers’ order. Service reliability involves the combined attribute of logistics and the firm’s ability to perform all related activities as well as customer provision in critical information regarding operational logistics and status. The attributes involves shipment of damaged free goods; accurate invoicing and error free. All these are found to be enhanced by the use of Reorder Point Inventory Control System. Originality/value: The paper identified attributes of Quantity Reorder Point Inventory Control System as a technique that can enable flour manufacturing firms achieve economic performance. The findings are acknowledged to be unique because they emerged from a well-organized study that employed quantitative research design.
