Item Change Management in the Academic Library: Transition From Print to Digital Collections(IGI Global, 2018) Adebayo, Oyeronke; Fagbohun, Michael O.; Esse, Ugwunwa C.; Nwokeoma, Nwanne M.The introduction of ICT has no doubt changed and redefined the way and manner in which library operations are carried out. In this chapter, the phenomenon of change management was discussed and Unfreeze-Change-Refreeze model was adopted. The chapter also delved into the management of change in academic libraries, types of Digital library collections, access mode to digital collections, the need for transition from print to digital collections, the need to reposition library tools, resources and expertise, need for accessibility of collections by user, the need and benefits for preservation of digital resources, health and safety policies and prospect of change management. Despite the great achievements recorded in academic libraries due to change in operations, there is still another side to the coin. Issues such as techno stress which is a technology related health problem came to the fore. Other challenges such as increase in expenditure, staffing issues, etc. also surfaced.Item GRAVITATING TOWARDS TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION: PLACE OF MAKERSPACE(Conference or Workshop Item (Paper), 2019-03) Yusuf, Felicia; Segun-Adeniran, Chidi; Esse, Ugwunwa C.; Izuagbe, Roland; Iwu-James, Juliana; Adebayo, Oyeronke; Fagbohun, Michael; Olawoyin, Olajumoke; Owolabi, SolaBased on constructivist philosophy which focuses on enabling learners to generate knowledge through interaction with physical objects, the idea of makerspace was initiated. The main essence of makerspace is to stir creativity, innovations and motivate learners towards designing and inventing. This paper is an exposition on the place of makerspace as a new approach to pedagogical activities. The 21st century is immersed in information and communication technology revolution which has necessitated a new way of learning. New generation of learners are referred to as digital natives who are naturally gravitated towards new innovations. This paper relies on recent scholarly publications to point out intricacies of makerspace, the need for educators to embrace it, the new role for educators and other stakeholders in education and the need to manage this change in the educational system. The paper also points out the challenges that this new wave encounters in areas where adoption has taken place and the benefits of adopting makerspace. Conclusion is however made that change is constant and the idea of makerspace may be the new shift that will totally revolutionize the academic world. It is suggested that Faculty and Management need to encourage studies to evaluate accruable benefits of makerspace. Keywords: Makerspace, education, technology. STEM, learning process, learners.Item Role of Information Literacy Skills on Use of Information Resources by Medical Students in Lagos State(Library Philosophy and Practice, 2019-01) Akpovire, Eunice; Olawoyin, Olajumoke R.; Adebayo, Oyeronke; Esse, Ugwunwa C.Background: This paper investigates the role of information literacy skills on use of information resources by medical students in Lagos state. Objectives: Find out the types of information resources available, level of availability and the skills for accessing them, level of information resources used, is there a significant relationship between information literacy skills and use of information resources. Methods: The study adopted a survey research design. Total enumeration sampling technique was employed. Self-structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) to test the hypothesis. Results: The study found out that print newspapers, textbooks and e-resources were mostly available to the Medical students. This paper examines the use of social media tools for knowledge sharing by university library staff in Nigeria. A descriptive research design was adopted for this study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select one hundred and sixty five (165) responded from thirty nine (36) university libraries. A structured questionnaire was the major instrument of data collection and was administered at Nigeria Library Association Annual conference. The data was reported in descriptive statistics and Statistical Software Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used for data analysis. The study revealed that university library staff in Nigeria (𝑥= 3.28±SD= 1.223) always use Instant Messaging App and Social networking sites such as Whatsapp, WeChat, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, Fortuito, My space, Academia and Research Gate for knowledge sharing. To a great extent majority of library staff (𝑥= 3.07±SD= 0.989) used social media tools to share personal journals and conference proceedings with users and professional colleagues. They are rare books and manuscripts which provide resources for the increasing needs of the research con11nunity in an academic or research institution. The study covers three universities in South-west Nigeria. 7hese universities are Lagos State University (LASU), Bowen University, fll'o, and Covenant university, Ota. One hundred and ninety-three respondents were sampled(or this study The descriptive si/ITey and stratified random sampling method was adopted.for this study. A structured questionnoire l1"US used to gather data .from the respondents. Data were analysed in tables using simple percentages and 111eun. The study showed that there is a high level o{utilization of special collections in the selected universities. The respondents, howeve1; pointed out poor bibliographic details of these special co/lee lions as a major hindrance to their easy accessibility and retrieval.
