The information available to any individual per time determines to a large extent the decision such an individual will take on issues. The rural areas in Nigeria are often bedeviled with lack of basic infrastructures that could have enhanced the welfare of its inhabitants. Rural areas in Nigeria are characterised with poor roads, lack of pipe borne water, lack of standard schools and health facilities, inadequate or total lack of electricity among others. The information available to the rural man/woman cannot be compared to that of their urban counterparts. The urban dwellers enjoys regular power supply, have opportunity to attend seminars/workshops, have access to standard health facilities; all these give the urban dwellers better exposure to information compared to rural dwellers. This, without missing words will directly or indirectly affect decisions rural dweller will take on issues compared to his/her urban counterparts.Item JOB SATISFACTION AS CORRELATES OF CAREER COMMITMENT OF LIBRARIANS IN SELECTED UNIVERSITIES IN EKITI AND ONDO STATE, NIGERIA(International Journal of Library and Information Science Studies, 2017-02) Awoyemi, Olubunmi O.,; Odefadehan, Oluwaseun O.The study was designed to investigate the correlation between job satisfaction and career commitment of librarians in six selected university libraries in Ekiti and Ondo States, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research method and utilized questionnaire to generate data for the study. Total enumeration technique was used to cover a study population of fifty four (54) librarians working in the six universities selected in Ekiti and Ondo state, Nigeria. Three research questions were presented for the study, and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and regression. The study revealed that there is a significant relationship between job satisfaction and career commitment of the librarians working in universities in Ekiti and Ondo State, Nigeria. Also, there was a significant difference between career commitment of librarians working in private universities and those working in public universities in Ekiti and Ondo State, Nigeria. The study recommended that the university administrators should make available all the necessary equipments to facilitate librarians’ duties and improve their job performance and also provide conducive working environment for them. The university manage should organize training on the job to improve their performance and librarians should be well remunerated and recognised. All these will make them to be satisfied with their job and be highly committed to their career.Item Librarianship and Sustainable Development in Hospitality and Tourism: Special Focus on Bibliotourism(Nigerian Library Association Ondo State Chapter, 2019-12) Adegbilero-Iwari, Idowu; Owoeye, Olubunmi I.; Odefadehan, Oluwaseun O.; Christopher, Abraham I.The contextual environment of library in the 21st century has given way to diversity of library services. The library has moved from the era of being a place where people come to conduct research or reading to what is now known all over the globe as infonomics; moving from the era of thinking and talking of library information materials as asset but, giving it the economic value that it actually worth. In the same vein, library, no doubt has prominent role to play in sustainability of hospitality and tourism development which has great influence on the nation’s economic growth and sustainability. Hospitality and tourism can be promoted and sustained through bibliotourism. This paper therefore, expounds the concept of bibliotourism and its influence on sustainability of hospitality and tourism development. For libraries in Nigeria to successfully court tourism to harness bibliotourism, concerted effort must be made by the government and all stakeholders in information profession to make our libraries centers of excellence and attraction. The paper therefore recommends that the library must be architecturally imposing exuding beauty and awe as is usually found of libraries in other nations and offer dynamic services and resources that catch the fancy of all people.
